Is TrustedHousesitters worth it in 2026? That’s the question I’m going to answer honestly including the controversial changes the platform made that frustrated a lot of members, and why despite all of it I’m still using it regularly since 2020.

But here’s the honest truth: the $12 fee only makes Premium membership an even more obvious choice. Here’s the simple math – Premium membership costs between $120-upper $200s USD per year depending on your location. If you’re using the platform more than twice a year, you’re already paying more in per-sit fees than you would for Premium. For Sitters:
- Competition for popular sits is real – a central London apartment will have dozens of applicants. You need a strong profile, genuine references, and thoughtful applications to compete
- You’re responsible for someone’s home and pets – this isn’t a hotel. You need to take it seriously, follow the homeowner’s rules, and prioritize the animals in your care
- No payment – food, flights, and personal expenses are not covered. This is an accommodation exchange, not a job
- Miscommunication happens: most negative reviews on Trustpilot come down to unclear expectations on one or both sides. A video call before confirming any sit goes a long way
Tips for Getting the Most Out of TrustedHousesitters
For sitters: Start local and start small. Don’t apply for a Paris penthouse with no reviews. Go for one or two night sits nearby, build your first platform reviews, and work your way up from there. Once you have 2-3 reviews directly from the platform, you’ll be amazed at how quickly better sits become available.

And now the third one is the $12 USD fee, which – again – you wouldn’t need to pay if you go for Premium like I always do. No platform is perfect, but after using TrustedHousesitters since 2020, I can confidently say that almost every issue I’ve seen could have been prevented with a video call and a clear conversation about expectations upfront.
Is TrustedHousesitters Worth It in 2026?
Yes, with one condition. Get Premium.
The $12 per sit fee made the Basic and Standard memberships significantly less attractive and the frustration from the community was completely valid. But here’s the reality: the current market simply does not offer anything remotely comparable. And believe me, I’ve tried other platforms. There are some regional housesitting platforms that work well in specific countries, but nothing comes close to TrustedHousesitters in terms of global reach, safety infrastructure, volume of listings, and overall quality of the exchange.
If you’re frustrated with the fee change – I understand. I was too.
