aIRALO REVIEW: WHY USE AIRALO?
Airalo Review: Why Use Airalo? My Experience Across 5 Continents
Traveling abroad can be exciting, but even though it’s the year 2024 staying connected can still be a hassle. Whether it’s because some people use roaming which can be really expensive, or they have to swap SIM cards regularly. Over the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to travel across five continents and tested multiple eSIM providers. After extensive testing, Airalo has proven to be the most reliable option. As someone who works remotely, having internet access is the most important factor when it comes to travel, and Airalo has not disappointed me. Let me show you why.
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a digital SIM card that is already in your device. eSIMs eSIMs don’t require you to physically insert anything into your phone. Instead, they allow you to download and activate a mobile data plan without needing to visit a store or swap out SIM cards. This can even be purchased BEFORE you land, which means that the moment you step foot in a new country you’ll already be connected.
Why is an eSIM Better Than a Regular SIM?
-Convenience: With an eSIM, there’s no need to carry multiple SIM cards or hunt down a local provider in each new country. You are automatically connected the moment you land, and it is great when having to take a taxi from the airport or public transportation. As a woman and solo traveler, this is a must for my safety.
-Flexibility: eSIMs allow you to have multiple numbers on one device, making it easier to manage your work and personal contacts, or to maintain your home number while traveling.
-Instant Activation: this can easily be done from your phone. If you have any problems, the Airalo team will be able to show you the specific instructions on how to fix it as soon as possible.
When to Use an eSIM Over a Physical SIM?
– Frequent Travelers: If you’re hopping between countries frequently, an eSIM is your best friend. There are even packages out there that allow you to travel in a whole region with the same eSIM.
– Short-Term Travel: If you’re visiting a country for a short period, an eSIM allows you to activate a local data plan instantly, avoiding expensive roaming fees. If I am visiting a country for more than a month, this is where I might choose the physical SIM card because of the price difference.
– Dual SIM Use: still need to use your regular SIM while traveling? eSIMs are perfect for dual SIM usage, where you can use a local eSIM for data while keeping your physical SIM and it doesn’t interfere with calls.
Why Use Airalo?
After testing several eSIM providers, Airalo consistently stood out for its reliability, coverage, and ease of use. Here’s why Airalo has been the best choice for me:
-Global Coverage
Airalo offers eSIMs in over 200 countries and regions, making it a great choice no matter where you’re going. I’ve used it in remote parks of Southern Africa, while traveling around Belize, and it even worked recently when I was in Socotra! A very remote island off the coast of Yemen.
-Affordable Data Plans
Airalo provides data plans that are often much cheaper than traditional roaming packages. With options ranging from a few days to several months, you can select a plan that fits your travel schedule and data needs.
-Ease of Use
The Airalo app is user-friendly and allows you to purchase and activate an eSIM in just a few clicks. This is especially beneficial when you arrive in a new country and need to get online quickly.
-Reliable Connectivity
Over the past two years, Airalo has been the only eSIM provider that consistently worked across multiple continents. The connection was stable, and the data speeds were reliable, making it easy to stay connected wherever I traveled. I travel full-time and always need to be connected in order for me to make a living. I always test out different products when it comes to my digital nomad life. No internet, no work for me and therefore no travel! So good connectivity is crucial.
Can Airalo be trusted?
Airalo has a strong reputation among travelers for being trustworthy and secure. The company partners with local carriers to ensure that you receive the best possible coverage and service quality. I’ve never encountered any issues with billing or connectivity during my time using Airalo. If you do, reach out. Their customer service is really responsive.

Hi – when you went to Socotra, did you buy an airolo eSIM for Yemen or for UAE?
Hi! I bought one for the whole of the Middle East region. It worked a bit in the main towns but that was it. Other people that were with me had Yemen AND UAE e-sims and those also didn’t work around the country. I recommend accepting the fact that you will be disconnected most of the time and just enjoy your time in Socotra!
