Best Bars in Wrocław Old Town: A Local’s Guide to the Nightlife (2026)
I’ve been going out in Wrocław since I lived there over a decade ago. I still go out every time I visit – which is at least once or twice a year. Wrocław is fundamentally a student city and the bar scene reflects that perfectly: affordable, unpretentious, full of character, and genuinely fun. The older, more upscale bars exist but they’re not where the energy is. These are the bars I actually go to when I have friends with me who are new to the city.
A quick note before we start: while this is primarily a bar guide, almost every place on this list also serves non-alcoholic options, including coffee, tea and some juices, at least. I’ve taken friends who don’t drink to most of these and they’ve had a great time. The atmosphere and the food are reason enough to visit even if alcohol isn’t your thing.
And before we dive in, let me tell you about something uniquely Polish that you need to understand to fully appreciate the Wrocław bar scene. All over Poland (and Wrocław is no exception) you’ll find small bars serving what I can only describe as Polish tapas. These are small, cheap dishes, usually around €4 each, served alongside shots of flavored vodka for around €2. You eat a little, you drink a little, you move on to the next bar. It’s a whole system and it’s one of my favorite things about drinking culture in this country. Several bars on this list follow this format. This is how Polish drink – they also eat while they’re at it and don’t get wasted.

Bar Ambasada
A sit-down bar with food that does the zurek really well (and the apple pie if they have any). Zurek is a sour rye soup and it’s one of the most comforting things you can eat in Poland, especially in colder months. Bar Ambasada is one of the “fancier” Polish tapas bars.
Pijalnia Wódki
You’ll find Pijalnia Wódki all over Poland: there are two branches in the Wrocław old town alone. This is the Polish tapas system at its most pure and most fun. The walls are covered in old newspaper clippings. The concept is simple: try all the flavored vodka available, paired with small dishes of traditional Polish snacks. You sit (or stand if there’s no room to sit), you drink, you eat, you move on. It’s rowdy, it’s cheap and it’s one of the best nights out you can have in Poland. Do not skip this.
Czupitos
The name is the Polish spelling of “chupito” – the Spanish word for shot and that tells you exactly what this place is about. Czupitos is tiny, there are no seats, and the menu has several hundred shots to choose from. Flavored shots, layered shots, flaming shots, themed shots, Harry Potter shots, German flag shots, the list goes on. Each one is around €2.
The move is to walk in with friends, order a flight (or two), debate which ones to try next, and then keep going.
Setka
Setka is a step up from the tapas bars in terms of price and atmosphere – it’s more of a proper sit-down bar with a food menu. The Polish pub food here is well done and it’s a good option if you want a more relaxed evening with a proper meal rather than the standing and bar hopping format of Pijalnia Wodki or Przedwojenna. I’d come here earlier in the evening before moving on to the louder bars later.
Spiz
Spiz is a brewpub right on Rynek, Wrocław’s main square, and it’s been part of the fabric of this city for a long time. My dad actually worked here as a student back in the 70s, which tells you something about how established it is. They brew their own beer on site and the selection of beer flavors is genuinely unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere: caramel, banana, cherry, and honey available! They have regular beers too, don’t worry. Their zurek is not bad. I’d mostly come for the beer and the atmosphere inside. Or sit outside right by the square if the weather allows for it.
Pub Pod Trzema Miotłami: The Harry Potter Bar
They can’t legally use the Harry Potter name because of copyright, but walk in and you’ll understand immediately. This is Wrocław’s wizarding bar. The decorations on the walls and cobwebs everywhere scream Hogwarts. The drinks menu is also really creative and you can get cocktails that look like potions that Snape himself brewed. Last I checked they also served desserts but I normally go for the drinks and environment.
Casa de la Musica
If you need a break from vodka shots and Polish tapas (and at some point you probably will) Casa de la Musica is your place. Cocktails, latin music, and dancing. It’s a completely different vibe from everything else on this list and that’s exactly why it’s here. The bar and dancing area itself is tiny so I suggest coming in early. This is one of the higher end bars on this list.
XIII Igiel
From the outside and even from the inside, XIII Igiel looks like a modern library. There are bookshelves everywhere and in between tables with people drinking. A good spot if you feel like sitting down and having a chat with friends.
Art Cafe Kalambur
Look for the quirky figures outside – you can’t miss it. They’re massive and take up half of the building. Art Cafe Kalambur is a coffee and drinks spot with an artistic, bohemian atmosphere. Good for a coffee during the day or a drink in the early evening.
Czarny Kot
This is my club. I’ve been coming here since my party days living in Wrocław and I still make a point of stopping by whenever I’m back. Czarny Kot plays 90s music and latin music. It attracts a mix of students and a late Millennials crowd.
Ulica Ruska – The Party Area
Ruska Street deserves its own mention because it’s not just a bar. This is the main nightlife street in Wrocław old town, lined with bars and clubs that fill up as the night goes on. It’s mostly students coming here and the prices target them. You stop by Czupitos on your way here. You can start at one end and work your way down and see where the night takes you. Some have no entry fee and some do. And this changes depending on the day of the week you’re going.
A Note on the Polish Tapas System
If this is your first time in Poland, embrace the bar hopping culture fully. You try a different shot of vodka (caramel, hazelnut, chocolate, lemon, lemongrass, the list goes on) or beer with a small dish of Polish food, and then repeat. Przedwojenna, Pijalnia Wódki, and Ambasada all operate within this system. You’ll spend very little and eat and drink better than you expected (I normally don’t even bother having dinner when I’m doing this – you eat tons and the food is good!). I rarely drink nowadays but this is genuinely one of the few times I’ll do it now. It’s just a fun night out.
